The Council serves the civil parish of Dedham, a riverside village in the Dedham Vale National Landscape, renowned for its artistic and historic significance.
Dedham Parish Council aims to represent the community, meet local needs, and help shape village life. Our duties include:
Management of the recreation ground, associated facilities, and specific areas of land within the Parish.
Reviewing and commenting on planning applications within the Parish.
Liaising with relevant authorities on infrastructure, policing, and community issues to represent your views and secure the best outcomes for the village.
Engaging with residents, organisations, and stakeholders to help shape both the present and future of life in Dedham.
Coordinating the maintenance of public footpaths through a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with Essex County Council – See our Footpath Maintenance page.
While Dedham Parish Council plays an active role in village life, some services are delivered by other local authorities. We work closely with these partners to ensure that residents’ needs are heard and addressed.
Roads & Potholes: Responsibility for road maintenance, including pothole repairs, lies with Essex County Council. We liaise with them where possible to report and monitor local issues.
Planning Applications: We review and comment on all planning applications in the parish, but Colchester City Council makes final decisions.
Public Footpaths: The Parish Council manages the cutting of local public footpaths through a Service Level Agreement with Essex County Council. You can view the areas we help maintain on our Path Cutting page.
